Jim Hopson is a Texas real estate broker and Registered Professional Appraiser with over three decades of combined experience in the residential property market and the inner workings of Central Appraisal Districts.
Licensed since 1991, Jim spent years in the trenches as a Collin County agent before crossing over to serve at Tarrant and Dallas CADs, where he became fluent in the mass appraisal systems that determine every homeowner’s property tax bill.
After retiring from DCAD in 2024, Jim launched VxR Training to give real estate professionals the tools and insider knowledge to help homeowners fight back against rising taxes.

His experience on both sides of the table — listing homes and valuing them for taxation — gives him a rare vantage point few can claim. He’s walked sellers through short sales in the 2008 crisis and saw how poorly most homeowners represent themselves in property tax protests.
